Baillaud creates the Bureau international de l’heure and the Union astronomique internationale

There are no frontiers in astronomy, but the creation of international astronomical organizations had to wait for the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The most important were launched in France by the director of the Observatory, Jules Baillaud. These are the Bureau international de l’heure (International Time Bureau), which existed until 1987, and the Union astronomique internationale, (International Astronomical Union), which is still active.
